With the right light, an outdoor space goes from invisible to inviting. That’s why we use Trex Lighting. The seamlessly integrate light can be installed into rails, risers, trades, and posts for easy, elegant wayfinding without additional inspection or electricians.
Three Zones of Deck Lighting
Deck lighting is easiest to think about as three separate zones, and you do not have to do all three. Riser lights go into the stair risers and are the safety layer. Railing and post lighting sits at waist and eye height and is the layer that shapes the space. Ambient and under-deck lighting washes the surfaces and is what makes a deck usable rather than merely visible after dark.
Packages We Build
- Basic stair and post lighting. The safety package. Lights on the stairs and the railing posts so nobody misses a step.
- Integrated railing lighting. Fixtures built into the railing itself for an even line of light around the perimeter.
- Full accent lighting package. Riser, under-deck, and ambient zones together, designed as one system rather than assembled piecemeal.
TimberTech and AZEK Fixtures
If your deck is TimberTech or AZEK, the matching fixture range is deep: 3-inch post cap lights, indirect light post caps, LED lantern post caps, lighted island caps for a bar or serving area, in-deck lights set flush into the boards, and accent lights for uplighting a post or a wall. There is a dimmer in the line as well, which matters more than people think, because deck lighting run at full output usually looks like a parking lot rather than a porch.
Trex Fixtures
On the Trex side we install riser lights, LED post cap lamps, wedge-style rail lights, and recessed deck lights in warm white, driven by a 100-watt low-voltage transformer with a control hub.
How It Gets Wired
Everything we install is low voltage, which keeps it safe underfoot and keeps the install straightforward. We mount the transformer at a GFCI outlet, set the timer, run and conceal the main feed through the framing, then connect, conceal, and test each fixture. Riser lights typically go in every other step rather than every step, which reads better and costs less. The important part is that the wire path is planned while the framing is still open, so do not leave lighting as an afterthought.
Under the Deck and Out in the Yard
If we are finishing the space below an elevated deck, a Zip-Up under-deck ceiling can take a low-voltage LumaDome lighting kit so the underside gets a real finished ceiling with lights in it rather than exposed joists. That pairs naturally with Trex RainEscape or TimberTech DrySpace keeping the area dry. We also install landscape lighting to carry the light off the deck and into the yard, which stops the deck from feeling like a lit stage floating in a black field.
